Kumbo Chapter Credit Unions Urged to Foster Collaboration for Growth Credit Unions under the Kumbo Chapter have been urged to collaborate more closely to foster the growth of the Chapter. This call was made on Saturday, April 26, 2025, by the Chapter President, Mr. JaffSylveriusDinnyuy, during the 2024 Chapter Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the CamCCUL Building on Commercial Avenue in Bamenda. The meeting brought together close to 30 delegates from the Credit Unions that make up the Kumbo Chapter. It aimed to evaluate the Chapter’s performance in light of the decisions, resolutions, and projections from the previous AGM. Presided over by Mr. JaffSylveriusDinnyuy who also serves as the President of the Jakiri Cooperative Credit Union, the meeting was also attended by management officials and staff from the Cameroon Cooperative Credit Union League (CamCCUL), the apex organization. Following the unanimous adoption of the minutes from the previous AGM, the various reports were presented, beginning with the Executive Committee report by the Chapter President. He commended the presidents and managers for their tireless efforts in promoting the growth of their Credit Unions. To ensure continued growth and sustainability, Mr. Dinnyuy urged delegates to reinforce training and control mechanisms, intensify their efforts, and work toward improving the interest paid to members. He encouraged them to be exemplary, improve communication with members, sister Credit Unions, and CamCCUL, and to avoid practices that could jeopardize the success of their institutions. He noted that the Kumbo Chapter is progressing well, having ended the year 2024 with 17 Credit Unions and a total membership of 68,991, up from 63,407 in 2023, a net increase of 5,584 members. He also highlighted significant increases in shares, savings, and loans to members between 2023 and 2024. While outlining the Executive Committee’s activities for 2024, Mr. Dinnyuy acknowledged that the year had its challenges. Despite improvements in interest collection and loan recovery, he cited the ongoing socio-political crisis and high loan delinquency rates as major setbacks. He also expressed concern over some Credit Unions opening new branches without adhering to required procedures. Looking ahead, Mr. Dinnyuy emphasized the need for enhanced security and sustainability in 2025. He called on all Credit Unions to work together to establish specialized committees, appoint independent Board Members, and develop three-year strategic business plans. He reminded the delegates that CamCCUL functions as a central bank within their network and urged members to avoid seeking loans outside the network, encouraging them instead to strengthen internal cooperation. The Chapter report was then presented by the outgoing Chapter Supervisor, Mr. Tebid Solomon. He noted continued growth in the Chapter, with the number of branches increasing from 65 in 2023 to 74 in 2024. Despite challenges in 2023, most Credit Unions met their League obligations, and Mr. Tebid encouraged those lagging behind to follow suit. He also urged all Credit Unions to join the Credit Risk Management (CRM) platform. Mr. Tebid thanked CamCCUL’s management for their support and expressed appreciation for the collaboration from Credit Union officials and staff during the ongoing crisis. During the AGM, the CamCCUL team educated delegates on several key topics, including the Internal Protection Scheme (IPS), Credit Risk Management (CRM), Union Bank investments, and COBAC directives affecting the CamCCUL network. Brief presentations were also delivered by CamCCUL’s Human Resource Manager and Assistant General Manager on the International Day of Cooperatives. The meeting proceeded with the presentation of the 2024 statement of accounts, expense reports, and the proposed budget for the year, which were discussed and subsequently adopted by the General Assembly. It was officially announced during the session that Mr. Tebid Solomon, who had served the Chapter as Supervisor for nine years, had been transferred to CamCCUL’s Audit Department. The Chapter President expressed gratitude for Mr. Tebid’s invaluable contributions to the Chapter. In response, Mr. Tebid thanked the Executive Committee and attendees for their support and pledged his continued availability when needed. In his closing remarks, Chapter President Mr. Dinnyuy expressed appreciation for the delegates’ collaboration and urged them to remain committed to their Credit Unions. He encouraged all to implement the resolutions agreed upon during the meeting. The day concluded with a solidarity meal.
